About me

I finally got to play the bagpipes in a Christmas street parade last year after years of practice. I enjoy being part of the Auckland marimba and ukulele festivals and I've been a co-conductor at the APPA festival. I suffer from imposter syndrome as an academic with two Masters degrees from Australia and New Zealand and I can't believe I am this old. I managed to strangle the Spanish language while volunteer teaching in Central America in 2011 and am expert at covering my mistakes as well as others as a piano accompanist. I have worked in a variety of schools in the UK and NZ, often moonlighting as a freelance funeral organist. I love directing  school productions and I also love it when they are over. I am considered a computer geek by friends and family and I like to dabble on-line usually with re-runs of QI in the background. Nobody noticed at Dilworth School that I faked it until I made it as Director of Performing Arts. My formative years were on a high country sheep farm and I can still get teary-eyed listening to Dolly Parton. I wish I could cook. I used to be able to ice-skate really well. I think I can dance but I have my critics. I often buy books and never read them. I am surrounded by incredible role models and some of my favourite people as Chair of MENZA (Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa). I am excited to be part of the National Aspiring Principals' programme and what this might mean for my future career.
