About me

Linda Ashley  (M.A. University of London, PhD University of Auckland): Linda worked from 2001 to 2004 at the Auckland College of Education. In 2005 she was appointed Senior Dance Lecturer and Research Leader for the Bachelor of Dance at AUT University, Auckland, New Zealand (Programme Leader from 2009). Linda has extensive academic, choreographic, educational and performing experience in dance. Linda was awarded the AUT Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009. She retired from AUT in 2010, when they closed the programme.

Linda has been writing about dance since 1996 and she has four internationally selling books Dance Sense (Northcote House Publishers, 2nd ed., 2005); Essential Guide to Dance (3rd ed., Hodder & Stoughton, 2008, Welsh edition 2011); Dance Theory & Practice for Teachers: Physical and performing skills, (Essential Resources, 2005, UK edition 2009); and Dancing with Difference: culturally Diverse Dance in Education (Sense Publishers, 2012). Research Officer for Tertiary Dance Educators Network New Zealand Aotearoa (TDENNZA) in 2008. Her research interests include: the teaching of culturally diverse dance in education; choreographic process; the research-teaching-learning nexus; dance writing; and dance for older adults.She runs Dance Incorporated a dance consultancy offering a wide range of services. Occasionally she performs the acclaimed Youthanasia of Dance, a lighthearted journey into dance and aging.
