Student artworks from schools have been on show in the the Ministry's head office buildings since 2005. Judy Matthew, who initiated the displays, wanted more schools to participate and more people to be able to see the student artwork that Ministry staff have enjoyed, so set up an online gallery on the tki. Earlier artworks are accessible from: http://www.tki.org.nz/r/arts/student_gallery/moe_exhibition/index_e.php Since 2009 the Artwork has also been exhibited at Parliament in the offices of the Minister of Education and the Assoc. Minister of Education.
Judy has been employed by the Ministry since 1992 and has responsibility for the management of Arts contracts such as the NZ Music Commission - Music Mentors in Schools and SmokefreeRockquest, Pacifica Beats Bands Mentoring in Schools; Stage Challenge sponsorship; The NZ Curriculum Online; TRCC (Teacher Refresher Council Committee); and previously The National Arts Coordinators - dance, drama, music and the visual arts websites and the Secondary Schools Arts Coordinators project; LEOTC (Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom); EHSAS (Extending High Standards Across Schools); QTPF (the Quality Teachers Partnership Fund); PDPC and arts resources such as Time-based Art, Making Music; Into Music 3. Plus organising national school Arts competitions such as the Olympic and ParaOlympic Games Painting Competition.
