About me

A father of 2 + 2. My wife and I have 2 boys and she has 2 girls. The girls have grown up and moved on. The boys have a long way to go.

I have been teaching for just over 20 years. Seeing many changes and developments in education from the introduction of tomorrow schools to the implementation of National Standards. Some parts of those changes have had positive intent but often without adequate thought of effective implementation.

Currently I am excited about the opportunity in education to actually make a real difference. As we have moved into the 'Internet Paradigm', we have at disposal the tools to support learners into a future of unknowns. The New Zealand curriculum document gives us the best possible direction in creating confident, connected, actively involved lifelong learners. With the right 'Pedagogy' and clear vision we can take learning to a new dimension and design classroom practice that does make a real difference.

A conceptual curriculum with effective implementation strategies and the thinking tools to support all learners are currently a part of the Greenpark journey. Over 5 years in the making and the best growth professionally I have ever seen. Children and teachers becoming 'Learners for Life' .

I hear what ya saying! It's envisioned this site can bring together a repository of user-generated links, ideas, templates, resources and discussions. All the other tools have their place - horses for courses, much like a builder does....hammer, saw, wrench...very different purposes for these tools. All add to the toolkit. So,
    • wikis for archiving, sharing, embedding work in a collaborative space
    • Google docs for collaborative planning, documentation, in-house stuff maybe
    • E-portfolios for digital platforms for sharing work and encouraging feedback with different audiences
    • VLN for professional learning space where like-minded educators can connect, chat, share, collaborate
The trick is not to double your work load...work smarter not harder. I really like to amalgamate all my resources in an RSS reader like Netvibes. http://www.netvibes.com/homegroups#Home

It brings together all my web urls in one place with widgets to display live thumb views or even whole pages. Lots of tab options and of course it's all live.

    You got any other ideas?

Hi Jason, good to 'see' you in here. You'll have to upload a photo to 'wow' us too! As you're already aware, I'm here to help as the Blended e-learning online facilitator. If you're interested in joining ICT PD Online, go to /pg/groups/27633/ict-pd-online/ and request membership.

You can also get to know about this space by going to /pg/groups/25604/getting-started-on-the-vln/

Also, feel free to share a little information - whatever makes you feel comfortable and lets people identify with you online :) Look forward to chatting again soon. Tess:)
