About me

Kia ora.  I was born and raised in Kamo, Whangarei.  Worked on the Marsden Point Refinery expansion for a while, then trained as a teacher in Hamilton.  Have been in the wider Waikato area since.

Currently I am the principal of Kihikihi School, which I am very passionate about.  We have a committed and dedicated team who have worked at establishing a school which is truly reflective of whānau desires and beliefs. 

My passion is about Te Ao Māori and how it is incorporated in the life of a school in Aotearoa. 

My learning journey after Kamo High School saw me gain teaching qualifications at the University of Waikato.  I began to develop greater knowledge of Te Reo Māori  and Tikanga there.  Since then I have developed my reo further at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, been to a kura reo and must go again, have completed Mauri Ora and He Papa Tikanga with Open Wananga and when I can fit it in a busy life, attend sessions with Te Uru Raukawa.

Five years ago after the resiting of a local Kohanga Reo (Ngā Kakano Kohanga Reo o Kihikihi) on the school site, we established a level one immersion unit at school.  In term three 2014 we opened our third classroom and have raeched 50 students in the unit just this term. 

To further the process of change we have recapitated with year 7 and 8 across the whole school in 2014.  Currently we are also working as a team to realign our school curriculum with Te Marutanga o Aotearoa to aim to simplify what we do.
