About me

Kia ora

Ko Steve Katene toku ingoa. He kaiako ahau ki te kura o Nelson Park. Kei Ahuriri toku kainga. Ko Tani Matana Kiripai toku papa no Wairoa no Rangiahua ia. Ko Lorraine Thompson toku mama no Wairoa no Mahia ia. Ko Ruataniwha toku marae. Ko Ngati Kahungunu toku iwi, Ko Tamatearangi toku hapu.

Greetings whanau. I have been teaching now for over 11 years and have been blessed with opportunities to explore new boundries of learning. I am currently responsible for whole school implimentation of Home school partnerships, Tuakana Teina, and Te reo me ona tikanga within my kura. Over the years i have watched the Maori population within our school grow because of our changes we have made school wide to embrace our whanau. We are a school of 400 students and 52 staff. Over 30% of our tamariki are Maori. Our school vision challenges teachers to look at themselves as the first thing to change before we look at the children. I have always wanted to learn my language but could never fit the time in or the value of it hadn't hit me yet until now. Both my parents spoke more Maori than english but it was in a time of assimalation. i was banned from learning reo. My views have now changed.

Kia ora Steve, you are welcome to do that, we are going to co-construct which sub-group you prefer to be involved with on a smaller scale (our 'parent' group will have over 100 participants) so if you would rather wait until then, that's fine, or just add friends as you can (even friends who are in other groups of interest to you if you want?) - Hope this helps, nā Dee

Hi Steve - can see you are online - I don't usually use these sort of message sites so it is all a bit strange for me at the moment - feels like I have all these new friends all of a sudden - looking forward to doing the course and talking to everyone.
