Tihei Mauri Ora!

Kia ora Koutou,

My name is Shane Burgess. I originally hail from Hawera, Taranaki. I completed my Tertiary study at Massey University in Palmerston North. I am currently one of the DP's at Papamoa College. I have responsibility for Years 9/10, Pastoral Care, Learning Support, Daily organisation as well as a myriad of other odds and ends.

My Journey at Papamoa College has been an exciting one, as we are a new school (Yr 7-13) and only opened in 2011. It's been so exciting to be part of a foundation school with a focus on 21st Learning. We were blessed to have Modern Learning Environments which have been great enablers to help support our vision fro high interest, real-life learning.

Prior to Papamoa College, I was employed as the AP at Shannon School in the Horowhenua. Here, I had responsibility for Curriculum in Years 0-4, ICT, Music and Health. Shannon was a Decile 1 school with a strong focus on Maori Education. This is an area for which I have a huge passion.

As a Primary trained teacher, I consider myself lucky to have taught across Years 0-10 as this has helped broaden my knowledge of the NZC.

Outside of school, I have a background in Music, having played the piano since aged 8 as well as being a trained vocalist. Musical Theatre is where my real passion lies. I am currently the Musical Director for Little Shop of Horrors fro Tauranga Musical Theatre, so 2015 looks to be a busy year!

Nga mihi
