About me

I am a teacher at Lincoln Heights School in Massey, West Auckland. I am the Mutukaroa Coordinator for our school, and release teaching on the days when I am not partaking in my Mutukaroa work.

My passions and specific areas of interest in my profession are:

  • engaging with whanau and the community of our school.
  • empowering parents and whanau through mutually honest dialogue about their child(ren)s learning and development at school.
  • providing a wide range of hands on, real world learning experiences for our tamariki - in all areas of the curriculum.
  • developing in myself as a professional through relevant PD and reflection.
  • bilingual education.

I am of mixed ethnicity and consider myself blessed to be so. My Father hails from the islands of Fiji and Norfolk Island (Tahitian and English ancestry). My Mother is a NZ Pakeha of English, Scottish and Irish decent.

I am married to a born and bred Samoan, and we uphold strong links to Fa'a Samoa, gagana Samoa, and in returning to his village of Falealupo, Savai'i regularly. Our two children Norah and Nasareta are educated within Samoan language nests and bilingual units frameworks.

Hi Brenda. I'm not really sure of who my facilitator is? A bit embarrassing really! Our cluster leaders email address is hlewis@cognitioneducation.com but I'm not really sure if she is the person I need to be contacting about these questions? Very much feeling my way at the moment while enjoying setting my space up. Thanks for your help!

    Hi again Emily

I've just noted that you have already created a discussion post and have had a couple of responses.

I'll make some inquiries with the Ministry of Education project manager to see what might be the best way of sharing coordinators details. Who is your facilitator? Maybe they can put you in touch with other phase one coordinators.

    Kind regards

    Hi Brenda -
Thanks for your message. Really keen to get going just nutting out where to start and getting my Mutukaroa room sorted out too. In regards to that I wanted to have the chance to go and look at some of the spaces at other schools next week - are you able to connect me to current coordinators so that I can do that?
Really looking forward to our cluster meeting in week three too.
    Thanks for touching base.
