Adding to Barbara's comment, VDictation is 75% off right now so worth a try. You have to train yourself to speak slowly, you don't train the app like some of the more powerful translation options. But not too bad. DD is good and can't wait for it to come to a store near us but breath i am not holding!!!
We use Paperport Notes, which is a free app for note taking. It has some great features but one of the best is that it has dragon dictation built in to it!
Requires an Internet connection to work, but is quite good if you choose the Australian accent.

Will investigate further. Thanks all - Innes I am wondering what you mean by, 'holding your breath and waiting for it to come to a store near us?'
You can check out a bit more info on Paperport at Paul Hami's blog.
