Green Eggs and Ham
Room 6 is a class of Year 1 and 2 children.
Yesterday we went to the library. I took the iPad pod of 5 iPads.
I wanted to read a book to the class and choose the Dr Seuss book "Green Eggs and Ham".
Before I began reading I gave an iPad to a child who had been working particularly well.
Off she went to another part of the library. I started reading to the class.
I love reading aloud to children and Green Eggs and Ham is an excellent book for expression, voice and character.
I got into it.
Then from the other side of the room I heard noises from the iPad. I would have some competition here. Would I stop and tell the child to stop? I kept reading and thinking, then I heard what she was engaged with, it was an eBook app. It was Green Eggs and Ham... Lite.
I was in competition with Dr Suess animated.
What to do?
I kept reading, I knew it was the lite version and that it would be over shortly.
I tried to not take it personally. Was my student getting at me or was I being precious here.
