Lead teachers ran regular PLD sessions in terms 2 and 3 focussed on writing. At least 5 sessions per term were dedicated to improving writing through the use of ICT. All teachers completed two Teaching as Inquiry projects and reflected on them. Lead teachers observed writing lessons and provided feedback to teachers. Teachers were asked to find a class at a different level and swap writing lessons.
Teachers have responded positively to the PLD sessions. They have enjoyed the Gail Loane readings and report feeling more positive about the teaching of writing. Many tried new skills or ideas as part of their inquiries and expressed a willingness to experiment. 4 teachers have completed the writing teaching swap and found the process valuable. The other staff have found the logistics of finding time to swap to be challenging.
