Here are a couple of quick ideas that we are trying to increase interest in our blogs.
Get a "Hit counter" there are many free counters online that can count the number of visitors to your blog. Our class is currently trying to get to one hundred before the holidays. As we use our Apple server to host our blogs through its built in OS... we are struggling a little with embedding on our blogs, but links to our vokis and voicethreads are working in the meantime.
Justine our AP has suggested a "Blog Award", at her previous school they had a mouse sprayed gold that served as a trophy that could be awarded in assembly for the best blog entry. I think this is a great idea.
I would love to see the blogs become a forum for interesting discussion, a place where children truly feel their work is being valued and enjoyed by others as well as being challenged.
