In the first year of the ICT contract (2009) I started a wiki for my class. I wanted parents to see it and told them about it. One parent did look and that parent went onto the wiki at home and worked with her son, adding pictures and encouraging her son to write on it too. At the time I thought this was great. Since then I have relaised that it was exceptional. Many teachers struggle to get parents and whanau to even view blogs/wikis/websites.
I do need to congratulate that parent, but I have no great ideas about how to get parents/whanau involved.
Saw the parent concerned after assembly today. i sat down and congratulated her on what she had done for her son. If I hadn't written the comment above yesterday i may not have said anything today.
