About us

WestNet is an eLearning Community of schools comprised of 11 High and Area schools in the west and top of the South Island, spread from Harihari in South Westland to Collingwood in Golden Bay.

We share courses and online teachers throughout our community and on the wider Virtual Learning Network.

The community was started in 2003 with a Ministry of Education funded, 3-year project that developed virtual classes delivered by video conference. This continues but is now supplemented with online tools (Moodle, Mahara, Adobe Connect etc.).

WestNet partnered with CantaNet in the Southern Central Divide ICT PD Cluster – commonly referred to as the SCD Blended Learning Project. Since 2010 around 30 teachers distributed across the West and Central South Island have been developing best practice in the use of online tools in class and forming a networked learning community.

The WestNet Moodle site supports eStudents and elearning communities on the West Coast and beyond.
