Robyn's Reflective Summary: Revision

Using the Interactive Whiteboard and Active Inspire Programme.

To become more confident and competent in using IWB.

 

First used for * daily morning routines: roll taking, student sign in calendar, Jolly Phonics letter of the week song and activities

*modelled writing

*handwriting

 

Then *to record brainstorming activities and ideas

*to scaffold drawing/art lessons

*designed 2 click and drag assessment flipcharts for chn to complete

*created 4 flipcharts for school assemblies involving using the interent and camera tool.

*used photos and pictures from my own pictures folder and the internet to use as oral language motivation.

*made worksheets and assessment activities

*use IWB to model individual use of mini laptops for chn   

*children use IWB as an independent choosing activity when have finished set tasks

*play class maths games that I have designed or saved from the internet

*showing digital photos of the cooking and baking we did in class - arranging in sequential order to support following a recipe in order and then to be able to write the correct procedure with visual prompts.

 

Having access to instant coloured text and pictures is very motivational for myself as a tool to support my teaching.A very powerful tool for the children to support their learning and understanding. Wonderful to be able to save work/ ideas/ assessments/ pictures/ games.

 

I have learnt so much in the 12 months that I have had the priviledge to use an IWB in my classroom. The more confident and capable I become my understanding grows and I enjoy experimenting. My class was introduced to the IWB long before me and so they have taught me skills and are able to redirect me and help sort out my mess ups!! 

Where to next?

 

Keep on keeping on. Keep experimenting, viewing other teachers and how they use the IWB successfully across the curriculum.

Year 1 & 2.

Using the digital camera to enhance learning.

Topic Study: Healthy Eating/Following recipe instructions/Procedural writing.

I chose to use the digital camera to record our baking and cooking sessions. I showed the class the photos on the IWB and we made a photo story for the wall with captions.

The children were able to visually revisit the procedure and able to arrange and then write the recipe instructions in the correct order independently.

We have 4 photo stories up in the classroom and the children are able to read the captions successfully because the words are supported by the pictures.

Pictures are very powerful motivators.

The next stage for the children is to use the cameras to take their own pictures and write their own captions, stories and reports.
