Week 5 - Don't be afraid to ask questions

Hi everyone,

Recently I was asked where to find exemplars of students work for EL unit standards. Available exemplars can be found on this page.

I recommend bookmarking the NZQA EL page as the key portal to much of the necessary information.

There is also an EAP page and Facebook pages for both EL and EAP unit standards.

Remember to use the ESOL Online community to ask your questions - you won’t be the only person looking for that specific answer!

Post your questions to secondaryesol@lists.tki.org.nz and don’t forget to give your email a subject heading.

On a sadder note two long-standing members of our community, Nan Cooper and Norma Sullivan, are moving on from their current jobs. They have both make a huge contribution to our community and on behalf of us all I would like to thanks them for their generosity in sharing resources and time over the years. Good luck with your next steps and don’t forget - we would still love to have you as part or our online community.

Please share events that are happening in your area.

Events for students

On other communities

Primary ESOL Online discussed who was responsible for completing ELLP funding

Secondary Literacy Online shared resources for Māori language week in September

and a post on learner agency.

Do take time to watch the video on collaborative structured brainstorming - really enjoyed seeing how to take brainstorming to a new level to improve writing and I am sure that teachers will find many used for the OECD resources.

Have a great week
