Last updated by Breda Matthews

Hi everyone,

I hope you have all enjoyed the long weekend. and are resisting the colds and bugs that seem to be gaining ground at the moment!

Last week we continued our discussion around students with additional learning needs

and Lois asked for resources for new English language learners and support for teachers.

Suggestions included

We also discussed EL unit standard 28050. This is a listening standard and we found out that, as with the reading standards, marks can be transferred from merits questions to achieved, if a student has not quite got enough correct answers for the achieved grade. Thanks to Ana for asking this question - I’m sure there are many of us who have encountered this situation, and to Julie Luxton for her comprehensive answer.

We continued out conversation around incorrect documentation for refugee students

and Michelle Johansson shared resources for Samoan Language week.

On other communities

Primary ESOL Online continued its discussion of advocating for ELLs.

Literacy Online provided a comprehensive list of new resources including School Journals and Ready to Reads.

Secondary Literacy Online shared the update from the National Library - Many Answers. I find these links are often useful when preparing units of work or assessments. There are some good links for Matariki.

Have a great week.
