Week 3: EAP review

Last updated by Breda Matthews

Hi everyone,

I hope the term is going well for you. I am sure that most schools are involved in assessing new students and busy ensuring that programmes meet their students learning needs.

All important tasks but it is essential to ensure that future assessments meet our students needs. This is why participating in the upcoming reviews is essential. So, if you haven’t provided your feedback already, think about making this a priority for next week.

Sector feedback is definitely listened to so I’d urge you to respond to the proposed changes. Your input will be used by the review panel to further develop the standards to ensure that they meet the needs of the sector.

The consultation document outlines the key changes and the draft standards are available here.  Feedback needs to be sent to National Qualifications Services at nqs@nzqa.govt.nz by Tuesday 28 February. The feedback form is downloadable at the bottom of this page. You could discuss the changes in your ESOL PLD cluster or on the VLN EAP group.

Last week’s discussions

A question for your school.

Are you and your school part of a COL for 2017?  More info on COLs is here http://www.education.govt.nz/ministry-of-education/col/. If you have a literacy focus what are your achievement challenges? How can this group could support you with these challenges?

On other communities

Secondary Literacy Online asked what student engagement looks like?

On Primary ESOL Online Janet shared thoughts on the key language learning principle Identify the learning outcomes including the language demands of the teaching and learning and also discussed oral language development.

Have a great week
