Week 4: ELLP and assessing reading

  • Public
Last updated by Breda Matthews

Hi everyone,

Last week we shared

the Ministry of Education ESOL Update

The latest Many Answers Update

Kathy is continuing to follow up on online options to support students who want to do Chinese internals. It would be great to find out what is available.

Glenn initiated a great conversation on what is or isn’t an assessment tool.

This included a sub-conversation about how best to assess reading which included reply from Athlyn on how she assesses reading.

Julie Luxton was busy on our community rteminding members who are waiting to join VLN groups that they must complete their VLN profiles before they can be admitted into closed groups. The reason for this is that we need to ensure that only teachers can access the shared resources.

Julie also posted on the GSL and secondary texts - do take time to read this a reflect on how we can enable students to access academci texts.

Requests - A teacher is looking for an assessment resource for the EAP standard 22750. If you have a resource perhaps you ccan share it on the VLN or contact me directly - not via this list as it is public.

On other communities

Secondary Literacy Online have continued with their conversation on the importance of oracy including an excellent video link.

Aspect of this thread can also be followed in this post and include a video link to the Power of Why by Simon Sinek.

Have agreat week
