Hi everyone,

This week is Tongan Language Week, The theme for this year is; “Fakakoloa Aotearoa ‘aki’ a e faiva’ a e Tonga” - Enriching Aoteroa New Zealand with Tongan arts. This theme has plenty of scope for fun whilst learning in a primary school context. Here are some helpful resources:

Last week was a bit quite on the discussion front but we shared the following:
Further details of CLESOL - keynote speakers announced
Judy asked about the assessment process for EL standards. Those of you new to EL standards may not be aware that all EL standards are internals so not preparation for externals but considerable marking loads at this time of year.
If you are new to ESOL or using EL standards please don't be shy about asking your questions on this forum. We all started somewhere and there are lots of people in out community who are more than happy to share their expertise.
Currently when people want to start a new thread they often simply reply to a post e.g. the Weekly Update. This makes it quite difficult to find and follow threads in the archive.
If you want to post on a new or different topic can I encourage you to

This will make it much easier to retrieve conversations for the archive.

On other communities
On Primary ESOL Online Janet posted on ELLs and Listening. Her post contained lots of great reading, viewing and suggestions.
On Literacy Online Sue Bridges updated us on reading research
My only problem this week will be finding time for all of these interesting links!
And Secondary Literacy Online had a great conversation on teaching vocabulary.
Make sure you find the time to read all of these great posts and even review the vocabulary ideas in the Pedagogy section of ESOL Online.
Have a great week.
