Kia horo mai Māmā! Tūtakina mai te pāpā o Piripi. Ko Wiks tēnei, e Mā.

Hurry up, Mum! Let me introduce you to Piripi’s dad. This is Wiks, Mum.

Wikaira

Ari? Arihia Coleman! Ko koe rā hoki tēnā?

Ari? Arihia Coleman! Is it really you?

Arihia

Wē.Hī.Nā! Wikaira Matiu? Kua aua atu te wā!

O.M.G! Wikaira Matiu? Wow, it’s been ages!

Piripi

Ko wai i hua ai? Ka mate kanehe au ki tētahi kōtiro, ā, he ipo o mua tōna māmā ki tōku pāpā...

Who would’ve thought? I fall for a girl whose Mum just happens to be my dad’s old girlfriend...

Tāwera

Hahaha, mā tēnā ka aha? Ko te painga atu, ehake a Kōkā Pēti i tāna kairoro o mua.

Hahaha, what diff does that make? It’s better than Kōkā Pēti being your dad’s old flame.

Wikaira

Whakamutua atu kōrua! Nō māua i te kura tuatahi, he tamariki tikotiko noa iho i aua wā rā.

Give it up you two! We were only young fullas back then at primary school.

Arihia

Koinei te painga o ēnei kātū huihuinga Māori. He kitenga kanohi, he hokinga mahara! Paopaongia ōku taringa e taku tamawahine me tēnei mahere reo nei.

That’s the best thing about these kind of Māori gatherings. All the memories come flooding back when you see a familiar face! My daughter just went on and on about this language plan thing.

Wikaira

Ko tāua tāua, e rangi. Hoake tāua ki te kapu tī. Nōku te whiwhi i tae mai koe i te pō nei.

You and me both, my dear. Let’s go and have a cuppa. Lucky for me you came tonight.

TMoA DocTe Marautanga o Aotearoa:

Hei tauira noa iho:  Mā te kaiako e whakahāngai atu ki (t)ōna reanga.

Hei mahi 1:

Māori language week has drawn to an end for this year. The class is to discuss the great activities of Māori language week and share their thoughts with their parents. They are to organise an invitation for their parents, choose a day and time and arrangements for this celebration. For example: it could be a morning tea or a shared lunch for everyone to celebrate the week.

Hei mahi 2:

Prepare a space (classroom/hall) to display the work and efforts of the learning during the Māori Language week to the whānau.  You will need to designate roles of responsibility to each student to to share to those of the whānau that attend in support of the event.  Allow for whānau to respond.  Once this formal part has concluded, its time for refreshments.
