Hi everyone,

      Last week

we shared suggestions to assist a school with a European student who is arriving mid-year and wants to do UE

had a far reaching discussion on appropriate provision for students in the senior secondary school who are operating at the lower end of the ELLP scale. many thanks to Mageshni for starting this conversation and to all those who also contributed.

Mageshni also started a conversation on suitable visual texts so she definitely get the virtual chocolate fish!

In the News - The Ministry has a new online ESOL programme available to intermediate and secondary schools who have students who are new learners of the English language. This programme on the VLN is designed to accelerate English language learning  to help students in years 7–13 catch up to their peers as quickly as possible. It is aimed at schools who are new to ESOL students and who do not have established ESOL departments or ESOL teachers.  If you would like more information contact  Ruthanne Kennedy eprincipal@ellinz.vln.school.nz

On other communities
Janet's  posted on Primary ESOL Online  on teaching reading.

On Secondary Literacy Online Alana shared a link to Robyn Headifen (Mathematics and Statistics facilitator, TEAM solutions)  blog and her first post entitled : What’s literacy got to do with it? She has a number of literacy strategies for teachers to use and reflect on - do share this with your mainstream colleagues..

Alana also shared a 2 minute video of a technology teacher using multiple ways to evidence student learning and a link to help us prepare for Samoan Language week May 24-30
