The categories explained

Clusters come together - mix it up- It is proposed the following categories are used this year. 

Categories are divided into year groups: Year 1-3, year 4-6, year 7-8. each year group can enter the following;

  • Photo story - photography still shots, sequence shots, comic
  • Book promo - trailer, review, snapshot, teaser, best reads – movie/animation/game/poster
  • Storytelling – movie making, animation, Podcast, fiction, factual, documentary, transactional, report
  • Advertisement – movie making, animations, sales pitch, promo
  • The ripple effect - this special category is theme driven. It is a values based, social-good category promoting citizenship and the concept of ‘service learning'. Share with us ways you are or can be a good citizen in your community– Do you sing at an old peoples home? Are you part of a litter clean up project?  Use the tools and communicate to change the world. Can you make a difference? 

One voice can make a difference, many voices can change the world - tell your tale!

Photostory

Information below provides you with the expert level components of a photostory, which will be used to critique the photostories entered.

Tells a clear, compelling story, or illustrates an emotion, event, or key competency

  • The story, emotion or event is clear, compelling and powerful
Demonstrates good photography techniques and composition
  • Very good photography techniques and composition

An appropriate, thought provoking title adds impact to the essay

  • Has a very relevant and thought provoking title

Information below provides you with the expert level components of a Book Promo, which will be used to critique this category.

Uses multimedia well to promote the book, attracting people to read it

  • The book trailer will really make the intended market want to read the book
Text and narration present information in a compelling way
  • The main information is concise, clear & very compelling
Music creates a compelling mood
  • An excellent choice of music adds relevant mood
A photo of the title and cover of the book are clearly shown
  • Clear photos of the title and book cover are included


 

Storytelling


Tells a story which holds the audiences’ attention

The story is very interesting and easily holds audience attention from beginning to end

Demonstrates camera work and editing which enhances the story

  • The camera work and editing are excellent

Contains dialogue, narration and/or background music which enhances the story

  • The movie is enhanced by a high quality dialogue or narration. The background music is well suited to the story.

 



 

Advertisement

The following provides you with the expert level components of an advertisement, which we will use to critique the advertisements entered.

  • The advert uses a lot of persuasive language to help persuade the audience
  • The advert uses clear emotional appeals to sell the product
  • The advert clearly and effectively demonstrates the use of a mix of strategies to sell the product- ie colours, logos, jingle, humour
  • The advert has a clear intended audience, and insightfully engages and appeals to that audience

Technical: Lighting, Audio/Sound, Photography, Editing

  • Lighting creatively and effectively used
  • Audio is flawless and well balanced using ambient sound, music and/or sound effects effectively
  • Camera work is outstanding using shots and angles to provide impact
  • Editing is effectively used to enhance message
  • Graphics/titles are used to enhance the topic or message

Creativity

  • Outstanding skill in showing imagination and creativity in content and production techniques
  • Superior attempt in creating a product that shows originality
  • Outstanding & imaginative skill in showing mood, style & artistic interpretation

Compelling: Interesting actors/animations

  • The performances by the actors/animation were very engaging, entertaining and compelling

The Ripple Effect

Social Impact

  • The ripple effect is clear and/or the project has a significant impact on a number of peoples lives
  • The value, reasons and social-good of the project are clearly communicated
  • The story shows an extremely high level of citizenship and service learning
  • High levels of intitiatve, compasssion and creativity are displayed in this project
  • The story is creative and compelling told in a digital format.
