This page is to profile competitions that GATE students can participate in within New Zealand and globally.
These are secure pen and paper tests which are invigilated in schools under normal examination conditions. ICAS reports document individual student, cohort and school academic performance and progress over time in the areas of Computer Skills , English , Mathematics , Science , Spellingand Writing for students in the primary and secondary years of schooling.
The competition is in two parts:

To mark Gifted Awareness Week (18 – 24th June 2012), the New Zealand Association for Gifted Children is running competitions to celebrate gifted children, their families and educators. The competitions are open to students living within New Zealand. This year’s theme “Connections” may be interpreted in any way you choose. Judges will be looking for creativity and originality.
Entries close Friday 22nd June 2012. There are writing and art, photography and film challenges within the competition.
The Association for Women in Science is running a photography competition for secondary science students. Winners from years 11-13 will receive full conference registration to the upcoming ‘Developing Women, Advancing Science’ conference being held in Auckland on 28 and 29 July. To enter students need to submit a photo that shows how women are active in science today. Entries will be judged on quality, originality and artistry. Entries must be received by 12 noon, 13 July. This annual competition is a problem solving team event for secondary students, organised by the Department of Engineering Science at The University of Auckland, and sponsored by Fonterra and Orion Health. This fun and challenging competition is for teams of three or four Year 12 or 13 students, who have interests in mathematics and science. 2012 will be the fourth year in which the competition has been run.
The Google Science Fair challenges students aged 13-18 to carry out a scientific investigation into a real-world problem or issue that interests them. The competition asks them to carry the investigation forward through rigorous experimentation, recording and conclusions.
Students compete with peers in their age group from all over the world to win scholarships, internships and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
