The ease of accessing, sharing, and publishing resources has never been easier. However, many of the guidelines, policies and expectations around how this is carried out - in terms of awareness and sensitivity to intellectual property - has been largely ignored. In other instances, it is simply either misunderstood and/or disputed to the point where the treatment of copyright ends up in the ‘too hard basket' and left to the individual teacher to interpret.
As educators, we need to be more honest and deliberate about how we treat intellectual property. As role models for students it's vital we understand:
- what we are entitled to when it comes to accessing and sharing information
- the extent to which we can consume, cite, and create the many works that contribute to teaching and learning in our schools.
Join us at the National Library for a series of roundtable discussions with teachers sharing their queries, concerns, and experiences related to copyright in New Zealand schools.
You will be joined by a variety of experts from the print, music and audio/visual sectors, as well as guests from Netsafe and Internet NZ.
