Keeping ourselves connected online

Two fingers touchingKia ora i te whānau,

We are truly entering into a complex and complicated time. We really are in this together as I sit at home next to my 11yr old son doing his writing task in Education Perfect as he talks to his friends in Discord.

Now is the time to look after your whānau, look after yourselves, stay safe, connected and know in communities like these, you will remain supported.

Kia pai tā tātou hauora i tēnēi wā,

I don't have any tips but I do have a suggestion. Try not to interrupt your child while they're doing their lessons. It's amazing to watch and listen to a group of children online, interacting with their teacher...and I feel like sitting in and participating. I taught in a digital classroom and I always wondered what it would look like in the home environment. As my son has kindly told me...we don't have to have breaks and lunches together and sport science doesn't involve running round the backyard.

Learning onlineThanks Lita, great advice. smiley I'm now sitting back and watching my son race against his class/school leaderboard, as we works through lessons in Education PerfectThe whole idea of changing behaviours based on intrinsic rewards, reminds me of how some people have had more success losing weight through support networks online - Social Media and weight loss. Gamification at it's best!

I'm sure with all your your experience teaching in a digital classroom, you would have some top tips for facilitating distance learning. Please feel free to share these in this crowd -sourced resource, Moving towards distance learning resource.
