Anyone who attended last week's Technology Online webinar will know how good it was - where several examples of Technology in action were shared that had natural links to designing/creating/presenting using digital tools and technologies.

    If you missed the Technology Online webinar on, The revised Technology Learning area, it's well worth checking out. Both the webinar recording and slide deck are now available in Technology online.

    The takeaways for me were; where Computational Thinking in Digital Technologies and Designing and Developing Digital Technologies sit inside the Technology Learning area, as well as making deliberate and planned connections to the three Technological strands. There were also some examples in different year levels, linking to the wider curriculum.

    Technology Online hosted another great presentation (26 November, 2019), where primary teacher and STEM specialist Sarah Washbrooke shares how she makes connections locally across her community to find authentic ways to integrate both Computational Thinking and Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes. Well worth viewing and sharing.

    Grow Waitaha Technology resources

    Kia ora koutou ma,

    As a learning community Grow Waitaha has been incredibly busy! They have recently released resources that support Technology learning across the three strands, all 5 tech areas including the digital technologies areas CTDT & DDDO. These are targeted curriculum levels 3&4, (years 7&8). 80 learning briefs, 40 learning experiences, 10 learning contexts! 

    Many students will benefit from these resources as they are flexible in their use and applications. Please feel free to access, use, adapt and share.


    Yellow rubber duck On a personal note, it is with great sadness that we farewell Gerard MacManus today - a friend of Enabling e-Learning and a huge mentor and influencer Digital Technologies across Aotearoa (Hobsonville Point Secondary School, Teacher in Residence - Computer Science Education Research Group at University of Canterbury, DTTA president, Kia Takatu ā-Matihiko team). Gerard has been a passionate advocate and contributor of the development of Digital Technologies and his expansive knowledge, creative mind and selfless sharing will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues. 

    Kia okioki te rangimarie ki taku hoa. Rest in peace my friend.

    As soon as I saw the duck I knew what this post was about. The duck will always remind me of Gerard and his amazing passion for e-learning, digital technologies and education. I frequently use his Lego duck activity with teachers when we are looking at unplugged computational thinking activities. A huge loss to the education community.
