Testing new intakes of International Students

I'd love to find out what people do to test each new intake of international students. We have 35 new students arriving in term three and there is a lot of pressure to test these students quickly so timetables can be issued and students are in classrooms the following day.
Previously, I have had students compete a cloze and a writing test but wonder if there is a quick and reliable test that we can use that is aligned to the GSE. Does anyone use the Cambridge Entrance Test? Is there another (preferably free) one?
