Have been asked to look into coding for my school, where does one start? Or any useful links or sites etc
Thanks In Advance
Hi Sophie.
I'm using https://code.org/ with my Year 5 and 6 class. I made an account for myself and then added my class to it. They have nearly finished the 20 introductory activities and some have now gone on the the next section of activities (around Mindcraft, Frozen, and Star Wars to name 3). Both the boys and the girls are enjoying it. You could start with a younger age group as there are activities for students from age 4. Later I may use Scratch for extension activities.
All the best.
Cheers
Barbara
Kia ora Sophie, great questions. You're about to be embarking on an exciting journey with your students! I'd love for you to ask your same question again in both these Enabling e-Learning threads (VLN),
I'll tell you why... there's over 1280 members in the e-Learning Teaching group these conversations are hosted in, so you're bound to get more responses from those wonderful teachers trialing coding themselves.
Also, the VLN has a great search tool, so type in coding and programming in the search bar above and see what happens...be warned it could blow your mind!
Where to start? Try this page in Enabling e-Learning (TKI) on Coding, it has a great guide and resources on Getting started with coding. Also see videos from Enabling e-Learning like: Using Scratch for learning
Sing out if you need any more support!
