Kiaora,

I want to plan an integrated unit around teaching my year 7 and 8 class basic mandarin in 2016.  I would like to find a novel about the Chinese culture in modern times that would relate to my students.  As well as learning Mandarin, we are going to compare and contrast our culture and the culture of Chinese children in the 21st century.  I am looking for a novel that I can use in my whole class reading/novel study.

I am aware of Noodle Pie, Ruth Starke, that looks at the Taiwanese culture from the view point of a child.  Does anyone know of a similar story but from a Chinese perspective?

Any advice would be great,

Buffy
