LEARNZ Antarctic field trip

Haere mai, welcome to this discussion strand for Antarctica - part of the LEARNZ Group on the VLN.

Get help and ideas about how this works and what to post, including examples of student learning.

Join me on for the trip of a lifetime down to Scott Base in Antarctica. This special field trip will take place in term 4 from 28 October to 2 November - http://www.learnz.org.nz/antarctica154

Jump aboard the C17 Globemaster aircraft destined for Ross Island in Antarctica. You will join scientists who are studying sea ice and the relationships between sea water, ice shelves and sea ice to try and understand why some sea ice is increasing when the ocean is warming. Your students will investigate the unique properties of water in the challenging and fascinating context of Antarctica.

Please share and provide feedback before, during and after the field trip. We'd love to hear how your students are experiencing and using the field trip and where their inquiries are leading to as a result of their participation.

Ngā mihi nui,

An ideal follow up to the LEARNZ Antarctica field trip is to enter the Antarctica New Zealand competition to celebrate Antarctica Day which is on 1 December 2015.

Get your classmates together to create a one minute video describing ‘Why Antarctica is important
to you’ and be in to win an Antarctic goodie bag from Scott Base!

Antarctica New Zealand wants to learn how much you know about Antarctica and why the icy
continent matters most to you and your classmates. All entries must be sent to Antarctica New Zealand no later than 12-Noon Friday 27th November.

Entries will be posted on Antarctica New Zealand’s Facebook page on Tuesday 1st December.
The best video will be judged by the public on Facebook through likes and shares!

Join this group to contribute to discussions.
