I am currently in Singapore with the Apple Distinguished Educator Australasian Institute.

We have some of the best engineers, advocates, teachers and clever people from all over- including Cupertino themselves.

If you want help with a tricky question to do with iOS then put it here and I will see what I can do!!!

Not Apple Configurator questions though cos changes are a'coming that should make things easier!!

Hey Allanah, would love anything that makes 'sharing' class iPads easier - even auto log outs of Apps like Google Drive would make things easier. Really I just want a Chromebook 'choose your face' log in for iPads!

    Enjoy your travels!

    Hi Allanah,

My IT person says Is there any way to completely de activate the requirement for a passcode on an IOS device from 8.4, to remove passcode entirely.

    Great following your tweets.

Third attempt at this cos the wifi is not fabulous.

Try your settings- giving up trying to upload a screengrab.

As an extra comment to this advice is to leave the passcode on the iPad with restrictions as if you don't a student or teacher could well put a restriction or passcode on the iPad for you and you could potentially find yourself with a bricked iPad like that other people.

Even if the passcode is very easy it is good to have.

Maybe lengthen the time before you need to put the passcode in will mean that you don't have to do it so often would be a compromise solution.

Hi Allanah - Be great to know if there is a way to improve AirDrop!

I am really puzzled why it is random in the results

    An example is:

In a group of say 10 iPads 1 iPad has all 9 of the others visible in Airdrop and the person next to them only sees 2!! the next iPad see 5 the next 4

The basics of Airdrop are on
    Airdrop - Everyone is on
Wifi is on and the same network
Everyone has an iPad name they recognise if you wait 30min iPad 1 now sees different iPads for Airdrop than it did before??

can you give me any ideas to make this work better

Such a great technology - desperately needed by teachers but seems unreliable in my experience

    Thanks - Stuart

    Hi Allanah

Is there a fix yet for resetting/restoring an iPad and setting it up as new without signing out of iCloud?

We have a couple of iPads that cannot be used because they got stuck after a reset. We cannot set up as a new iPad or restore because we can't sign out of iCloud. With one iPad a teacher got someone to sign her into iCloud and we can't get hold of the password to sign out. On the other iPad a student signed in with their iCloud account from home but we don't know who the student was - it only gives part of the iCloud username.

    Much appreciated thanks.

    Marion

    Hi Allanah

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I'd love to know why my Ipads say they have 4.8GB (for example) in photos and camera when there is nothing on the Ipad. Sharing etc is off, the recently deleted photos and videos have been deleted. I've googled this problem a few times and I can see others with the same question but no clear answer....

    Hi Allanah

Might not be the right place to ask, but here goes.  We have an ipad that has been completely 'locked out' by a student that is no longer at our school.  The teacher took restrictions off and he cleverly put a passcode on and we can not access it.  Any quick fixes?

    Most appreciated

    Lisa

Hi Lisa, I have just gone through a similar problem with an iPad set up by an employee quite some time ago and no record of purchase, passwords or answers to security questions etc. This was a lesson in patience. I went through the online service Apple provides, only to be blocked at their second stage security wall ( answers to security questions). I decided I needed to speak to a person to explain my plight and began a four week journey through the system (6 people and three different countries). I was finally put in touch with an Apple tech in Adelaide, Australia, who fixed my issue. It took three days. I synchronized my 4 iPads . They now have the same password, answers to security questions and gmail, iCloud address.( all documented and secure)

Thomas Smith at Cyclone - Thomas.smith@cyclone.co.nz( Min Ed /govt  purchasing) can do resets for approx. $80. He can advise you on the best solution.  I wish you well.

i think there are lots of us in the same boat with locked out iPads. I know the effect of changing the security in iOS 8 had a dramatic effect on the number of iPads stolen in large cities but it also has provided a real headache for schools. Iʻve got one from a specialist teacher group where it was purchased through the special school the person was working for under a certain organisation. This organisation was amalgamated into a larger group, the person who put her own personal Apple ID and password on the iPad left the organisation... Weʻve taken the iPad back to the person - she canʻt remember the credentials used... Iʻve contacted Apple and theyʻve said they canʻt unlock unless we provide the receipt with the serial number. Iʻve gone back to the purchasing school...Their organisation is so good they canʻt find the receipt - or they canʻt be bothered. Iʻve gone as high up Apple  as I can but no one has responded offering any help... So an iPad that could be used to assist children with special needs sits bricked on the shelf in my office... and I guess there are a fair few around the place like this. What do the experts say Allanah???

Hi, I was just listening in here and had a question, have recent iOS updates changed the ability to plug in and wipe an iPad? It has been about a year since we last had a problem with an unknown passcode on one ipad, and an iCloud account we couldn't sign out of on another. At that time we were able to wipe the iPad completely through plugging into a PC, and then just start again like it was new out of the box. So is this not possible anymore?

Coll - fantastic! Iʻve obviously given up too soon or contacted the wrong people, and I know how exasperating it can be trying to work your way through the system - I can write books about it. Is there any way you can share that Adelaide contact maybe off list, to save others trying to work their way through the system. I would be VERY interested - howard@eclass.co.nz

    Cheers and thanks

As a first place to start.

Contact the sales rep that you bought the iPad from who can put you in contact with Apple Sales Support or order management with the iPad's serial number from which an invoice should be able to be generated.

Or put the iPad into iTunes and get it - or on the back of it in really really tiny type

With this invoice you can contact Apple to give you what you need to be able to unbrick your iPad.

    Hi Allanah

I have an iPad that will not accept our school wireless passphrase.  I have no trouble joining other iPads to the school wireless using the passphrase. I can join it to home wireless no trouble.

I have erased all content and settings and run the setup as a new iPad but it still will not join to the school wireless.  Any thoughts?
