Kia ora, I'm a Year 7/8 teacher in a remote school on the West Coast. I'm looking to hook my students up (through hangouts if possible) with a bilingual or full immersion Maori class to help with their Te Reo (basic level).

Kia ora Andrew. I have forwarded this onto some friends of mine who may be able to help. No promises but Im sure you will find someone out there in cyber land.

Tēnā koe Andrew. I work alongside 2 bilingual units on the West Coast and I am often over those ways supporting teachers, providing PLD. I will forward your request on to those teachers ... Tahu
Kia ora Andrew, I'm thrilled Hemi and Tahu are sending a shout-out for more virtual support. It would appear you are not alone, Justin Hickey asked the same request (from the West Coast) in this thread, Kids teaching kids Te Reo online.
Rachel Roberts (VLN Primary coordinator) added a comment in there about a teacher in the Learning Exchange (which is another area here in the VLN that enables connections between schools) that could provide a name for you too to connect to too.
Learning Exchange: The VLN supports the work of the Māori Medium Kura Network and the VLN Community (VLNC), and promotes the concept of classrooms without walls, where learners and educators have the flexibility to connect with each other 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Find out more ...
I went into the Learning Exchange, did a search found these schools. They may or may not be of use to your Y7/8 students.
Also, there is a group set up to support kaiako and tumuaki on the TTT PLD programmes called, Reo Atu, Reo Mai - CORE Education, Te Toi Tupu. You might be able to dive in there and make some connections with facilitators and fellow teachers there too.

Kia ora Andrew
Thnx Tessa, we aren't active in the Learning Exchange anymore, you will find this mainly has a Secondary focus. Though we are active here in the VLN groups area.
You are welcome to hook in with our te Reo Māori kaiako Jules from Whatatutu, Gisborne area. There are schools from all over NZ learning with Jules. Her classes are a lot of fun with a big focus on tikanga Māori alongside learning te Reo so include karakia, waiata & kapa haka also. Happy to help just get in touch.
Ahhhh thanks for the clarification Rachel, I'm still learning about the difference spaces too, we should do a webinar to profile what you do! :-)
Kia ora
I am a kaiako at Te Kura Kaupapa Maori a rohe o Mangere, I teach the year 7s.
We could organise something?
Mauri ora!
Kia ora Parehuia

Andrew.
