Maybe this discussion deserves a separate thread.

Can you help us frame some questions for parents/whanau about how we can better gauge parental interest in on line learning.

Please write your thoughts on this Google Doc

What do you consider to be the issues around internet safety?

How do you think the school could educate or grow understanding around the issues of internet safety?

How do you think you keep yourself and your children safe on the internet?

It's a valuable resource, thank you Allanah.

I have a growing amount of teachers asking, "How are parents getting these messages?"Interestingly enough, the findings from Netsafe's research on Digital Citizenship through Cybersafety: An Evaluation of NZ Educators’ Cybersafety Confidence

Cybersafety issues extend far beyond the school gate. Just over a third of participants (38.4%) agreed
they were confident about knowing how their students’ whānau and family felt about ICT in learning. Of
those respondents who were confident, 35.5% reported they did not agree or were unsure, that
students’ whānau and family had been supported to understand the schools’ ICT use guidelines.

I often share Netsafe and myLGP with parents and this Prezi show, which will be out of context as you click thorugh the links. But I'd be more than happy to share my thinking behind the sequence, so others can use this too Smile

    Hi Tessa

Coincidental that you should mention cyber -safety for parents. At present I am just updating

    https://sites.google.com/site/cybersafetyresources/presentation

So that parents can have a succinct precise of the our cyber-safety resources for when we speak with parents- as well as more depth information for them to view / research at their leisure.

I've added a question around digital citizenship and cybersafety. I'd be very interested to hear what the rest of you think about the relevance here too.

I've been working with quite a few teachers recently on digital citizenship and they are becoming increasingly aware of the need to share messages of digital citizenship and cybersafety with their wider communities. Is this part of engaging with parents online?

I have popped in and made some additions. I'll watch this with interest:-)

btw, you can also use the 'Pages' tool here in the VLN whch works like a wiki/Google doc - anyone can pop in an edit.Smile
