Data use is a task for school leaders, and not teachers. My job is to teach and to take care of the children in my classroom.”

Is this a reasonable statement?

Well said Nathaniel - completely agree with you.   The next step is to have systems that allow data sharing across all teachers who interact with the student (providing no privacy issues) so everyone has a complete picture and can tailor approaches appropriately.  In a secondary setting comparative subject related data (both qualitative and quantitative) may be an indicator of teaching approaches that "work" for a student and can highlight methods that are not so successful.  'Open to learning' teachers will reflect on this data and trial different approaches to maximise student achievement.
