Citizenship education in the context of safer community journeys is the concept behind a newly published curriculum resource from the NZ Transport Agency.

Find it here:

The resource was written by Pam Hook. It is arranged by learning areas: English, mathematics and science. Students can seek community-based solutions to help road users experience safer journeys.

Connected educators are encouraged to consider how Pam’s resource could inform their practice.

Feel free to add your thoughts below about:

  • How this resource could support your practice
  • Using notions of young people as citizens to activate their learning
  • Ways in which road safety, school travel and local streets have or could provide contexts for student learning
  • What works in helping students actively contribute to solutions to issues in their school community.
