Which software are schools using to help integrate ebooks in their library? We need to upgrade our Library Manager software.

Hi Lavinia,  The School Library Association has regular meetings which enable your library staff to discuss all manner of things including software, the Auckland regional page is here.  You can contact us anytime for advice on all things library.  You can visit schools which are using various software to see how the various software works to help you make your decision.  One thing to consider when making these decisions is the future use of the library, being able to have you students access the library from anywhere and on different devices is a consideration for a modern library.  I'd endorse Lisa and Gillian's advice.  Talking to library staff who are using the software daily is a great way to help make your decision when choosing software.  SLANZA can help you with that.

Lavinia, Accessit integrates brilliantly with SCIS. It uses a function called Rapid Entry where you simply enter ISBNS. Once your list is complete Accessit searches multiple cataloging services including SCIS. Adding catalogue records and book cover images is very easy this way. No need to go through the SCIS website then import Marc records.  Seamless cataloging.

Hi Gillian, does Accessit integrate with SCIS ( the school librarian is asking me)?  Another colleague has recommended that software too.

Thank you Lisa. I will definitely look up the National Library's guidelines.

Hi Lavinia, If you are considering changing your Library management system have a look at National Library's Service to Schools website. We have guidelines on changing your system and what to consider before you do so. If you want to talk to a school library adviser ring our help line on 0800 542 5463. Another source of great advice is the schoollibs listserv. There are lots of very knowledgeable school librarians on this list who are happy to answer questions like this.

We use Accessit which enables very smooth integration with the Wheelers ebook platform. It's easy to set up and importing purchased ebooks into the catalogue is a breeze.
