Hi All

We are wanting to invest in digital media players to use to wirelessly project information from our laptops (PCs) and iPads onto our classroom projectors. Does anyone know what's the most multipurpose/useful/cost effective way to do this out there at the moment? I know the apple TV is only compatible with apple products but we have both PCs and ipads so want something that can cater for both. Any information greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We have only just purchased multiple licences for Air Server after trialling it and having one teacher who had used it extensively and very successfully  at another school. We did have to turn the firewall off to make it work but were assured by our techies assigned by N4L before we purchased that our settings are able to be changed to facilitate Air Server. What were the actual issues you had please? Many thanks.

    Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that we do not use watchguards as filters, so there will be no problem getting this to work.

Once anyone wants to give this a crack, give a call (0800 LEARNING), we'll sort it out, and enable the use of the chromcast device to work in all schools in NZ.

The N4L system uses 'watchguard' as the filters/firewall, and that wont allow chromecasts.  You can work around it buy creating another SSID on a wifi access point, and not having a firewall on that AP.  N4L techies will sort it for you.  But like steevoh says apple TV's will work out of the box.  Although are almost three times as expensive as chromecasts Surprised

I also wouldn't go down the airserver path.  Its been a massive headache, and we have not scrapped it.

Thanks - we have N4L so will probably be difficult to get through that network.

We have struggled to get chromecasts workingat school. They require an unfiltered or non firewalled network to connect to the internet.

Apple TVs will work with PCs through a piece of software called Air parrot (around $10 per license) to talk to the TV wirelessly, it is easy to install . You need to have a robust wireless network to avoid lagging of audio.ipads can be displayed on TVs through the apple tv using airplay.
