At Aorere, a South Auckland secondary school, we are embarking on the e-learning pathway, starting with a pilot BYOD group.  Would anyone be able to share an example of an e-learning and/or BYOD school policy, and a parent/student terms of use agreement form?

    Hi Keir

    Here is where we started with our newsletter article and the key points remain the same.

    We have made good use of the eLearning Planning Framework http://elearning.tki.org.nz/Professional-learning/e-Learning-Planning-Framework2 and associated resources in our planning for an rollout of it.

    We still run an optional BYOD and the student access to WiFi is managed the same as their access to school owned computers on the hardwired network (1 username for both etc etc). We use a Fortinet appliance to manage it all.

    Hi Kier

    We had a soft launch of BYOD last year and the journey is ongoing. Uptake, as always, varies according to need - so if a teacher is expecting and building in opportunities for use of devices, the process is faster. We have a few bookable half class sets of chrome books and ipads to supplement student devices if the classroom activity lends itself to it.

    I am facilitating a BYOD Professional Learning Group (in house) this year with the aim of getting more students to not just bring devices but to use them for learning purposes. Initaiily we assumed too much. Students don't necessarily know as much as we expect. TEachers do need some basic trouble shooting skills. etc.

    Our school wide Cybersafety agreement is based on the Netsafe template and replaced our User Agreement. All students, staff and parents sign up.

    Hello Karen,

    The policy and use agreements have been updates and are available in the new version of the kit, which can be found here;

    Hope this is of use.
