I have a teacher on my staff who is all fired up about Schoology. This is a new Learning Management System for me. If you are using it at your school, could you let me know:
1. what made you choose it over other LMS's that schools are using
2. what you consider to be the most useful feataures of this system
I'd really appreciate your feedback. We have used Ultranet in the past but it is not being used at all currently so the decision has to be made about which LMS to re-introduce for staff.
Senga
You say Ultranet is not being used at all.
I'd ask why not - and then depending on the answers you get back - you can determine:
a. If your school even needs an LMS
b. What your school needs and wants in an LMS
c. What will be required to setup, implement and embed the use of an LMS - for all users.
d. Then you can start looking at which particular LMS to use.
Don't start with the LMS - start with the "Why LMS?" and "How LMS?" first - and then choose the one best supports those answers.
Otherwise, I'd hazard a guess that within a year or so Schoolology will be much like Ultranet - not used at all.
Good questions, Senga, and a really helpful reply from Tim:)
Of use might be the following:
There was also a discussion on LMSs in the MLE Reference Group where a teacher at Papatoetoe High mentioned they had used Schoology so it might worth contacting them direct.
Thanks Karen
I'm relatively new to my school so was not involved with the rollout of Ultranet previously. However, we are already working through all of Tim's a, b, c's as part of developing our e-learning framework. I am determined we get the next iteration of LMS right for the staff, hence my questions about Schoology. Teacher buy-in is absolutely crucial and so I wanted to investigate Schoology given the enthusiasm of my teaching colleague.
I really appreciate the links provided Karen. Will explore further and have a couple of other contacts to follow up on from developments yesterday.
It's positive that a teacher is fired up about a LMS! Although we have Ultranet it is used to varying degrees here and some teachers use other tools as their LMS. As long as they use something, I'm happy....
Couldn't agree with you more Ross! Am still following up on BYOD in my school and appreciated your great presentation at SLANZA Conference last year
