As the emphasis is shifting from teaching problem solving to teaching via problem solving, the focus is on teaching mathematical topics through problem-solving, investigations and inquiry contexts which are characterised by the teacher helping students construct a deep understanding of mathematical ideas and processes by engaging students in creating, conjecturing, exploring, testing, verifying and justifying.

The website I have used extensively is  http://nzmaths.co.nz/problem-solving

What is your favourite problem solving activity / website that engages and challenges your students?

I couldn't find anything that sort of supported what I was doing with problem solving in my year four class so I made my own little website.

I found that other resources had a smattering of problems based on a smattering of approaches. I wanted to focus on different types of problem solving with lots of problem focussing on each one so learners could better identify and articulate what approach they were using and why.

The nice thing about it as well was that I could personalise it with the children's name. The kids loved it because they featured in each of the prblems!!!
