A group of students at a school I am working in are creating a new school using the minecraft app on their iPad. What we are looking for is an app that will record the minecraft screen as they take us on a tour around their world.  Can anyone suggest an app that records the screen while you are on the app and your voice?

I have a similar query from another school looking to record the students creations in Monster Physics and then have the students write about them. I too would love to have an app that records the screen on the ipad and them allows me to add voice over or text afterwards. Until I get a better solution we are recording one one ipad over the shoulder of the child working on the second iPad. (like Brendon ; )

I will investigate using reflector but would love a one-stop-on-the-ipad solution! : )

Be careful. Display Recorder use to be in the NZ app store, but it has since been removed.

As of the 8th December 2012 this app is no longer available at the App Store.  If you already downloaded it though, it continues to work on your iPad.

The $9.99 one with a very similar icon is nothing like it.

Today I used AirServer (approx $5.00 NZD each when buying 20 + licenses) on my Mac to mirror the iPad, and recorded the screen with Quicktime. Worked beautifully. Exported back to the iPad via iPhoto/iTunes. http://www.airserver.com/

I've just found these apps in Twitter - they may/may not be able to capture your Minecraft worlds. I should probably try this myself and get back to you all!

These apps allow you to record your drawing and narrate at the same time.  Enabling you to explain a concept or give instructions.  Also great for students to demonstrate their understanding of a concept.  You can also upload images and diagrams in many of these apps.

This app allows you to record websites.

I have heard that others have had some problems, Allanah, but we never have. I don't have one of our iPads with me at the moment, but I will check up on settings and the version I use and let you know.

    Thanks for sharing Display Recorder.

I have it Display Recorder not the HD version but you have to change the setting to America all the time to work and then change it back for everything else to work so I deleted it cos I could be bothered.

Does the HD version have the same bug- it it doesn't it may well be worth the $10.

I use Display Recorder HD. I see that it now costs $9.99 in iTunes. Students can use a quiet space to record anything being done on the screen. It can then be saved as a video and cropped in Quicktime. My Year 4, 5 and 6 students do this independently and post their efforts to their class blog - see http://wvsroom13.blogspot.co.nz/search/label/NZ%20Sign%20Language

For the "at home" problem, you can take an iPad screenshot by holding the Home button and on/off button together. The screenshot is saved in the camera app. Then use an app you have already to add sound.

If the children not allowed to bring their iPad to school for the day then maybe they can take an iPad home for the evening and use the video to record the screen while the child is talking. Won't be stuning quality but it could work.

Thats exactly what I would do too Allanah. I went looking for that XRec app and another one a while ago but was a bit slow. They pull those screen recording ones quickly don't they.

Thanks heaps for the ideas.  Yes have thought of reflector but this can only happen when students at school - hoping to find something that can be used at home as well.
