A group of students at a school I am working in are creating a new school using the minecraft app on their iPad. What we are looking for is an app that will record the minecraft screen as they take us on a tour around their world. Can anyone suggest an app that records the screen while you are on the app and your voice?
Thanks
Tania
I would reflect my iPad onto the laptop using Reflector.app and record the screen using Quicktime and save to Vimeo. I do have an app on the iPad called XRec but it has been pulled from the iTunes store already!
My 14 year old son has been looking for an app that does this for quite some time but it seems as soon as they appear in the app store they just as quickly disappear. If you can mirror the ipad onto a mac computer I think then it is possible. Maybe air server or reflector? I am sure someone more knowledgeable will post exactly which one to use
You could be really basic and use another iPad to take a photo of the screen. Thats how we use songs in Garageband. Record them off another iPad playing it on YouTube.
Thanks heaps for the ideas. Yes have thought of reflector but this can only happen when students at school - hoping to find something that can be used at home as well.
Thats exactly what I would do too Allanah. I went looking for that XRec app and another one a while ago but was a bit slow. They pull those screen recording ones quickly don't they.
If the children not allowed to bring their iPad to school for the day then maybe they can take an iPad home for the evening and use the video to record the screen while the child is talking. Won't be stuning quality but it could work.
For the "at home" problem, you can take an iPad screenshot by holding the Home button and on/off button together. The screenshot is saved in the camera app. Then use an app you have already to add sound.

I use Display Recorder HD. I see that it now costs $9.99 in iTunes. Students can use a quiet space to record anything being done on the screen. It can then be saved as a video and cropped in Quicktime. My Year 4, 5 and 6 students do this independently and post their efforts to their class blog - see http://wvsroom13.blogspot.co.nz/search/label/NZ%20Sign%20Language
Thanks for sharing Display Recorder.
I have it Display Recorder not the HD version but you have to change the setting to America all the time to work and then change it back for everything else to work so I deleted it cos I could be bothered.
Does the HD version have the same bug- it it doesn't it may well be worth the $10.
I have heard that others have had some problems, Allanah, but we never have. I don't have one of our iPads with me at the moment, but I will check up on settings and the version I use and let you know.
I've just found these apps in Twitter - they may/may not be able to capture your Minecraft worlds. I should probably try this myself and get back to you all!
These apps allow you to record your drawing and narrate at the same time. Enabling you to explain a concept or give instructions. Also great for students to demonstrate their understanding of a concept. You can also upload images and diagrams in many of these apps.
