I have a year 4-5 class and the class are currently researching a variety of topics.  Does anyone know of any apps that can assist with this or child friendly sites?

Just to add to this thread, there are a number of child friendly search engines (or adapted engines) that are useful. You don't need an app or particular device - just a browser:)

One starting point is Google which offers a Safe Search service. Here is a list of others that might help: KidRex,  SearchyPantsiSeekSweetsearch and Kids Net. They won't need installing - you just set them up as default instead of Google.

No search engine will be completely 'safe' though, so you will also need to look at filtering and security software, as well as including deliberate teaching around cybersafety and digital citizenship with students, too.

An alternative is to set up learning pathway so you specify a range of known sites for the children go to using web quests e.g. http://webquest.org/

    Hope it's useful:)
