"Allowing excellence" has got to be one of the coolest conversations around the merits of 1:1 devices.

In the video 1:1 Netbooks - Allowing excellence in the classroom, Tyler and his teacher Jody Garland talk about how the netbook programme has changed the way Tyler thinks about learning.

In the context of thinking about UDL, Tyler's story is the perfect illustration of the power of choice. Jody, his teacher consistently provides Tyler alongside his classmates with options - they then choose what tools to use to best demonstrate their understanding and to bring to life new ideas.

Two of the principles of UDL (Action and Expression, and Engagement) are strongly represented in Tyler's story. Tyler is really motivated by the autonomy he has, plus he has the tools he needs to get out his ideas really successfully.

If you have had a similar experience with the impact of technology in your classroom, we would love to hear about it.
