On Wednesday 5 June at 3.45- 4.45pm, Enabling e-Learning is running a FREE WEBINAR: What does effective e-learning pedagogy and UFB look like?  with guest speaker, Janice Gulbransen from Nayland Primary School.

We first heard about their story, when the Ministry of Education presented their Learning without Limits seminars. This is what captured the imagination of many, across the country...

In this up-coming webinar, Janice will unpack this story a little further - about what they did to ready themselves for ultrafast broadband and the impact that its had at the school/classroom levels since. Janice will also make particular reference to what effective e-learning pedagogy looks like for Nayland Primay School.

    Janice Gulbransen

    Yesterday, we were lucky enough to have Janice Gulbransen, principal of Nayland Primary School share the journey of ultra-fast broadband in her school. Janice was (and still is) passionate and focused, about the importance of effective pedagogy driving the use of technologies in her school.

    As part of the ultra-fast broadband journey (Nelson Loop), Janice elaborated on the challenges for leaders, as they support staff to embrace new and emerging technologies - to help enhance learning opportunities for all students.

    We were inspired with video examples that illustrated teachers articulating clear learning intentions and students talking about what they had achieved - through the use of a variety of e-tools.

    As well as creating, collaborating and communicating with a wider audience through blogs, podcasts, Nayland Primary students are involved in innovative collaborate projects such as Flick it on (film competition) and Rock our World (collborative music making) with international buddy classes. For more information on these projects, the theory behind global connections, as well as the power of collaboration, see Rebecca Power’s EDTalk on Stop collaborate and listen below.

    During the webinar, some participants found it hard to follow the video footage in real time (connectivity issues). It really bought home, just how necessary it is to have reliable, fast upload/download speeds - for collaborative projects like these to work.

    Gerard MacManus joined us and shared his insights into the need for professional development in his school. His comments after the webinar read,

    Thank you for sharing your stories. It showed that no matter what you get, it is only deliverable if good pedagogy and Professional Development are delivered in conjunction with Ultra Fast Broadband. Ultra Fast Broadband is only part of the answer. I think these would be better if they were called a look at a Modern Learning Environment, They look at more than just the journey of the school, but how learning and teaching have changed to embrace the developments.
