How are Maori and Pasifika music students being catered for in your teaching programmes?

What strengths do they have and exhibit in Music that can be used to facilitate success in their other academic subjects?

As a former HOD Performing Arts and HOD Music, I am interested in providing some ideas or having discussion around what you would like to do to engage Maori and Pasifika learners in the Music curriculum Cool

    Malo Manu,

I'm the music teacher at Kura Kaupapa here in Kaikohe (just started this year) and the 'hands on' as much as possible approach definitely works for me - also, I brought in a blues musician mate to do a performance/workshop and my level 1 students loved it . I plan to bring in different muso's from different genres throughout the year.

I also do 'Waiata o te wiki' each week - a different Maori song that each class regardless of age/year learns.

    Shot!

    Brent
