I had a good discussion with a company todat on offering BYOD to students. One question came out of it, should we ask for Microsoft Office to be on the device?

We are a google apps school, but it has me thinking... what are others thoughts on the matter

Why would you ask for MSOffice to be on device? In many cases a web app would make more sense. And if format important, why not Libre/OpenOffice? We should most defintely NOT be promoting a particular piece of commercial software.

Hi, I agree with Mike. There are a number of free open source products out there And not to mention all the web based apps. I guess what you need to ask is, what do you want the kids to be able to do. Perhaps specifying the  format work needs to be saved in?
