Hi, I would love to know what others are doing with iPads in their classrooms! I am in a year two class and we have been doing a range of things with them in our room!
- I use them as part of my reading rotation and specify what apps I want the students to use.
- I also use it as part of my maths rotation and again specify the apps I want the students to use.
- I have also got apple t.v set up in my room and use this to airplay shared reading! My students love reading along with the wonkey donkey!
- I have also used mirroring and the whiteboard app in a maths group situation where students solve problems on their iPad and then turn the mirroring on as they share how they solved the problem with others!
- I have also worked with students to create their own comic lifes about atheletics day.
Would LOVE to hear what others are doing!

ToonTastic and Puppet pals are both great apps for Literacy. You can create a movie with the end result, so very easy sharing. The ipad version of iMovie is also very user friendly.
Hi Jo - you mentioned i-pad version of i-movie. I thought I downloaded an i-pad app of i-movie but it wont sync onto the i-pad even though it is on my computer. Any thoughts?
Ive only downloaded the app straight to ipad from itunes it costs about $6.49 or something. I dont sync with computer as export striaght to camera roll or youtube. If high qual does take a while though
Hi Jo, I agree with you, I love all the possibilities within Puppet Pals...retelling a ststory brainstorming per writing, practising fluency, comprehension if two book characters interview each other...so many possibilities within one app tomfocusnon different learning needs.
CS is a simple comic life app that I have used down with Yr1 can be used right through to Yr6 great introduction App very simple but only takes a few minutes for students to get the hang of.
Much easier than other comic apps like Comic Life - but lacks the ability to tweek!

I love using story kit. It's free. Kids draw a picture, type a story and record voice. They learn to use this so quickly. Can add multiple stories to make a book and then share via a blog or wiki.
Sock Puppets is a great app for encouraging literacy, drramatic storytelling - Have written a brief blurb about it here. Also really like Strip Design for storytelling. Awesome for engaging children in documenting their stories - can use photos from camera roll or take photos as you go.
Have fun

Of course Maths Bingo is a huge hit with the children.
Great for add/sub/mult/div practise and you earn weird and wonderful 'bugs' when they get a bingo. I like it because to earn more bugs the children have to beat their last time, so they have to get quicker.
I spent ages at home practicing so I get the high score at Math Bingo- hehehe

Thanks for those all downloaded now I need to play. I had clicked iPad and the story kit comes up under iphone so couldnt see. Im still on the hunt. Just downloading free apps at the mo until I see how the kids use, look after and engage, then will start paying for some. The VLN is the best site for up to date and NZ info so awesome. THANK you for such quick replies. On the planning goes.

Hey, our juniors really like iWW lite which is a free handwriting app. It has a picture of a giraffe on it as the icon. They trace around letters - capital and lower case and also numbers. They follow the numbers to create a letter or number and they get to scoot it down the hole or tip them down the hole.
This is an area of real interest and probably the greatest potential for the iPad! It is a shame that the group of 14 educators I take to Californian none are from the Early Childhood sector as we not only look at schools but get a 2 day Briefing with Apple in Cupertino on specifically on iPads in Education. An exciting development as I talk to groups around New Zealand (Invercargill to the Bay of Islands) on the role of iPads and the implementation and PD required for the successful role out is the interest in this technology by junior class teachers and even Kindergartens - One large Kindergarten Association I am working with on a project to roll out iPads in all of their Kindergartens in their area - 26 Kindergartens 1700 students.
The apps suggested are all great ones but we have an opportunity to look at Apps that really think outside the box way more than these!
Take a look at any App from Toca Boca - start with Toca Tea Party then for some real fun Toca Hair Salon. These Apps promote rich language and role play - couple this start with a teachers guidance to take it further into art, drama etc for a marvellous experience for students - confession here I have collected the set from Toca Boca!!
