With the changes to the copyright law, Netsafe has been recieving a lot of contact from schools regarding the implications for schools of the recent law changes. We have prepared some general information which schools can access at http://www.netsafe.org.nz/content/copyright-and-schools.
We are aware that sometimes less is more and this multi-page document may not satisfy that burning issue fast enough. What questions do you think schools need answers to now regarding copyright?
Sean - as an ISP (as well as provider of Internet filtering), we'll be right in the middle of this so I'll try to keep people posted on our perspective.
Thanks Rohan. We appreciate the potentially difficult position of the ISP in this change. Thanks for your input so far, and we look forward to hearing your perspective as the law matures.
Your input is really appreciated, Sean. Good to get it 'from the horse's mouth', as it were. I'll be linking through to this from the e-Learning groups.
Cheers, Karen
Thanks Karen, we are looking forward to the conversations.
I am finding CC Search to be a very valuable tool, as it gives a common point of entry to the advanced search for re-usable material of several search engines and repositories. Kids can learn to use it quickly and easily to find material that thay can use which respects current copyright law. The only exceptions I need to teach them (that I am aware of) are the files shared under US fair use regulations on Wikimedia Commons: http://search.creativecommons.org/
Teaching them to acknowledge the source is also important, of course.
